THREE leading timber and construction bodies have introduced a new digital platform aimed at simplifying timber frame construction for wider adoption. Timber Development UK (TDUK), the Structural Timber Association (STA), and Swedish Wood have collaboratively launched “Timber Frame: Where to Start”, an online quick-start guide for architects, engineers, home builders, contractors, and building operators.
The guide explains the fundamentals of timber frame construction and its main components, while directing users to more detailed and reliable technical resources.
The partners say the goal is simple: to provide time-pressed practitioners with an easy way to understand how timber frame works and what considerations are needed to deliver successful projects. Importantly, the platform serves as an accessible entry point for organisations curious about timber but unsure how to begin.
Dave Hopkins, chief executive of Timber Development UK, emphasised the sector’s progress: “Timber frame is no longer an alternative method of construction. It is a mainstream solution that supports productivity and sustainability. This guide brings together the information businesses need to get started, all in one accessible place.”
Andrew Orriss, CEO of the Structural Timber Association, noted the importance of providing a clear starting point for those new to timber frame.
