The global timber decking market was valued at US$9.7 billion in 2024, with Research Intelo forecasting a 5.4% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2025 to 2033. On that trajectory, the market is projected to hit US$15.5 billion by 2033.
The report links ongoing demand to activity across residential and commercial construction, with continued interest in outdoor living spaces supporting sales of timber decking for patios, balconies, pool surrounds and walkways. It also points to a wider push toward sustainable, eco-friendly building materials, with certification schemes such as FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) helping to strengthen buyer confidence where timber is sourced from responsibly managed forests.
On the supply side, timber remains a broad church, with commonly used options including pressure-treated wood, redwood, cedar and tropical hardwoods. Research Intelo also highlights stronger demand tied to rising residential activity in developing markets, naming India, China and Brazil.
However, the report flags familiar headwinds. Timber, particularly when untreated, can be vulnerable to moisture, UV exposure, termites and rot, which can increase maintenance requirements and shorten lifespan compared with alternatives. At the same time, PVC and composite decking continue to compete hard, offering durability and lower upkeep as pricing becomes more competitive.
Looking ahead, Research Intelo points to technical improvements that could help timber defend its patch, including advances in pressure treatment and thermal modification designed to extend service life. It also highlights opportunities in the public realm, with growing use of timber decking in projects such as parks, pedestrian walkways and waterfronts.
