Cygnum Timber Frame Unveils €8m Factory Expansion Opened by Ireland’s Taoiseach

An Taoiseach Micheál Martin has officially opened Cygnum Timber Frame’s €8 million expanded manufacturing facility.

The extension at the company’s Macroom site in County Cork will almost double production capacity, increasing annual output from 1,400 to 2,500 housing units.

The development will also create 150 new jobs, while helping to accelerate housing delivery through the use of advanced manufacturing technologies that improve both efficiency and sustainability in construction.

“It represents a major step forward in supporting the delivery of high-quality homes across Ireland and responding to growing demand,” Cygnum said after the opening.

Micheál Martin welcomed the investment during the April 9 ceremony.

“I’m delighted to officially open Cygnum’s newly expanded facility in Macroom,” he said.

“This expansion will significantly boost their capacity to deliver much-needed homes. Modern methods of construction are key to our housing challenge.”

Representatives from Enterprise Ireland and Construction Industry Federation attended the opening, alongside Patrick Atkinson, chief executive of Chadwicks Group, and John Paul O’Reilly.

Grafton Group plc, owner of Chadwicks, said its recent acquisition of Cygnum strengthens the Chadwicks trade portfolio and supports the faster, more efficient delivery of new homes. The acquisition was approved by Ireland’s Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on March 26.

Founded in 1997, Cygnum is a leading made-to-order supplier of offsite timber frame solutions for developers and contractors in Ireland, reporting revenue of €45.6 million and adjusted operating profit of €7.9 million in 2025.
