New film showcases British C16 timber

A new film has been launched as part of an ongoing campaign to encourage greater use of British C16 timber.

Featuring the people who make up the UK timber supply chain, including architects, foresters and sawmill operators, the film highlights the values driving the Trust UK C16 Timber collaboration.

By increasing the specification of UK-grown C16 timber, the construction sector can help support employment and rural communities, strengthen domestic supply chains and contribute to a more sustainable built environment.

Despite having a world-class sawmilling industry, the UK remains the second-largest net importer of forest products, with 80% of its annual timber requirements – valued at around £9bn – sourced from overseas.

This dependence on imported timber places pressure on the domestic industry, while also limiting environmental progress, increasing avoidable carbon emissions and reducing opportunities for job creation in rural communities.

Launched as the first industry collaboration of its kind, the Trust UK C16 Timber campaign brings together the UK’s three largest sawmillers – BSW Timber, James Jones & Sons and Glennon Brothers – to encourage the use of domestically grown and manufactured C16 timber while reducing reliance on imported materials.

The new film features perspectives from across the timber supply chain, highlighting how increased use of UK-grown C16 timber can deliver economic, environmental and social benefits, while helping to create a more resilient and sustainable construction industry.
