Persimmon Homes has retired a long-serving line at its Space4 timber frame manufacturing facility in Castle Bromwich in a move that paves the way for new robotics capabilities.
The developer recently decommissioned the Line A Wall production area, which has been used to create wall panels since 2000. The system will be replaced with the latest in robotics technology over the coming months.
Andy Shaw, conformance manager at Space4, said: “Working at Space4 has allowed me to play my part in Persimmon’s innovative approach to construction, participating and supporting the many changes and new developments that have taken place over the past 24 years.
“It’s great to be a part of this piece of Space4 history, overseeing the use of Line A for its entire 24 year run. I’m excited to play my role in the future innovations that will take place in the facility, too.”
Space4 produces timber frames, highly insulated wall panels and roof cassettes. It supports all of Persimmon’s developments, supplying 3,300 timber frame kits and roof systems across the business in 2023.
