The ultra-low energy housing specialist TALO has secured its largest contract to date with Balma Group, delivering a £4m development of five family homes at The Barons in Shoreham, Kent.
The rural scheme, designed by Chapter Architects, follows the successful delivery of Croft Mews in Edenbridge, which TALO completed for Balma at almost double the speed of traditional construction.
Following this success, Balma has again commissioned TALO’s full housing package, including its offsite timber superstructure, foundation system, energy package and factory-installed external timber finishes.
The Barons is designed to resemble barn-style architecture, built to support sustainable, multi-generational living while minimising environmental impact. Each home is targeting an EPC A rating and will feature solar-powered electric underfloor heating and hot water, EV charging, and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery to improve indoor air quality.
Triple-glazed windows and sliding doors will be pre-installed at TALO’s factory to enhance airtightness and reduce on-site work. External materials have been selected to reflect the rural setting, while some homes will include double-height entrance halls and gallery landings, showcasing the flexibility of TALO’s building system.
TALO combines Finnish offsite construction technology with advanced design and manufacturing processes to deliver ultra-low-energy homes across a range of tenures, including private sale, rental and affordable housing.
