Chain of Custody Certification?
We offer Chain of Custody auditing and consultancy services to a wide range of clients involved in, or interested in pursuing Chain of Custody Certification to meet the requirements of schemes such as FSC® and PEFC.
What is Chain of Custody Certification?
CoC certification provides evidence that forest products such as paper and wood, originates from certified, well managed forests, and verifies that these products are not mixed with those from uncertified forests at any point in the supply chain from forest to the consumer.
The demand for certified forest products has grown dramatically in recent years, and companies that wish to trade in them need to attain their own CoC certification and be independently audited by an accredited Certification Body to allow them to do so. Part of this process requires them to keep detailed records of their purchases and sales in order that the certified goods can be traced back to source.
What can The Wood Shop Consultancy do for me?
We’ve been involved with FSC and PEFC since the turn of the century and through our consultancy activities we are able to offer our customers the benefit of our many years of auditing experience and close contact with FSC, PEFC and the certification bodies.
As a wood products consultancy business, we specialise in the timber and wood products sector but have also worked extensively with print and packaging companies. A significant part of our business is now dedicated to helping to ensure that our clients CoC systems are regularly reviewed and maintained.
We don’t stop there…
Certification can be granted, but it can also be taken away! For this reason, many of our clients engage us to provide ongoing consultancy following certification to ensure that their procedures and systems are kept up to date.
Expert Consultancy
We offer timber consultancy services to a wide range of clients involved in the wood products and construction industry, as well as lawyers, insurance companies and the police involved with forensic investigations.
Expert Witness Service
Acting as an Expert Witness in litigious cases, our timber experts are conversant with the requirements of CPR 35 and have gained a broad experience in preparing legal reports (both as single and SJE instructions) dealing with solicitors, counsel and giving evidence in court.

Timber Consultancy
Wood Products Expertise
Our Timber Consultants are able to draw on a wide experience of both the domestic and commercial use of timber in lifestyle and building projects; from bridges and boardrooms, furniture and flooring, pallets and packaging, through to doors and decking. As qualified wood technologists with close industry links, The Wood Shop Consultancy has both the technical and practical expertise to advise on the correct specification and use of timber and wood products.
As such, we are regularly called upon to examine wood products to assess their performance, fitness for purpose or cause of failure.
Timber Condition Surveys
The Wood Shop Consultancy is also experienced in providing condition survey reports to satisfy the requirements of Building Control, NHBC etc. Over the years, our consultants have been involved in surveying a number of prestigious developments, including The Guardian Royal Exchange, London; Woolwich Arsenal; Regents Park (London Zoo and surrounding Regency properties); Natural History Museum; Gloucester Docks; Queen’s Hotel, Hastings; and the Judicial Buildings of the South West Circuit (Bristol, Exeter, Taunton etc).
