As this incredibly hot summer appears to be coming to an end, I thought now would be a good time to provide a quick update on some of the events you have to look forward to in Autumn; with the timber supply chain about to level up.One of the first events coming up which I am most excited about is the much-anticipated launch of Timber Development UK; with our launch as a completely integrated organisation which will connect the timber supply chain, lead best practice, and accelerate a low-carbon future, now imminent. This has been a momentous effort, and in the next month, we will be pushing live with a strong new brand, website, print magazine, digital offering, technical publications, and far more. This launch will take place against the backdrop of the Wood Awards Showcase, an exciting new exhibition for the Wood Awards shortlist at London Design Festival as part of a new partnership with Material Matters, from 22-25 September. Based on the award-winning podcast of the same name by Grant Gibson, Material Matters is the latest addition to London Design Festival. This free to register event includes four days of site-specific installations and talks at the Bargehouse on the Southbank, with the Wood Awards running a partnering exhibition at Gallery@OXO, a hyper-visible space which lies between the Bargehouse and the Thames. We strongly encourage all our members to go check it out. For any of our members who wish to associate their brand with the best of British architecture and design via the Wood Awards 2022, do get in touch with us as soon as possible, as we have a limited number of sponsorship packages still available. These packages place you at the centre of the awards, online, in print, through two excellent exhibitions, and in the winner’s ceremony coming up in November.This is not the only event we are encouraging our members to engage with this month, as on 14 September we also have the Confederation of Timber Industries ‘Build Better with Wood’ Conference. During this conference, you will hear from a range of policymakers, trade associations, architects and insurers, which will take place from 10:00 to 16:00 at the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel. With just 200 places available, made freely available thanks to Swedish Wood, we recommend booking now.Finally, prospective learners are being called on to register their interest in new Timber Technology Engineering Design courses from the New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE). This is the first course of its kind in the UK, focused on how to design and build net zero structures using timber. Timber TED 1, which covers design, materials, and sustainability, will be taking its first intake of students this September. These courses are relevant to anyone in the built environment profession, so whether you are in a technical sales role, in a trussed rafter or timber frame business, upskilling within a merchant or joinery firm, or an engineer or architect seeking to level up, you should register now.Have a great week all.

Wood Awards | The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse
The overall design is based on seventeenth-century drawings for an indoor theatre discovered at Worcester College, Oxford. Just like the approach taken towards the reconstruction of the Globe, the design is an accurate historical research-based re-creation. The detailed design for this archetypal Jacobean indoor playhouse is based on scholarly research and the careful study of surviving Jacobean interiors and details.Like many of the Jacobean examples studied, the interior of the new playhouse is constructed almost entirely from wood.
