The Plywood Club of London (PCL) used its 71st annual dinner to underline confidence in timber’s direction of travel, with outgoing chairman Miles Kember pointing to both market momentum and the sector’s shared mindset. Around 120 plywood trade members gathered at The Brewery in central London on 30 January for the event.
Kember, of James Latham, addressed around 120 members of the plywood trade at The Brewery in central London, telling guests: “The future for timber products, whether they be decorative or strength-based, is brighter than ever,” and adding: “Timber is the ‘best’ building product when tackling targets like the UK Net Zero by 2050 Government policy. New innovations also mean timber is not just the cheap option any longer but the correct solution.”
He also highlighted what he described as the ‘special’ camaraderie within timber products, noting that the dinner brings together a blend of suppliers and customers – including businesses that compete day-to-day. “We feel as one, working together and not against one another. This is something other trades and possibly even other areas of the country are envious of.”
Kember will step down as Club chairman after five years at the upcoming AGM, following five years in the post. Rob Cushen of Decor Solutions is nominated to take over.
Entertainment on the night included a magician and raffle, with prizes presented as thin birch ply vouchers. Dinner sponsors were TLT, Altripan, James Latham, Plaut, EE Olley & Sons, Peri, Wood International Agency, South London Timber, DHH and Alonso.
