Glennon Brothers UK Ltd Submit Plans for Troon Sawmill Site

Glennon Brothers UK Ltd has submitted an application to South Ayrshire Council seeking permission to modify its existing timber sawmill and processing facility on Harbour Road.

The proposed works, filed via Ramsay McMichael Consulting Limited, involve re-roofing and re-cladding the building.

As one of the largest sawmills in the country, the site processes around 300,000 tonnes of logs annually and supports over 100 local jobs.

Established in 1913, Glennon Brothers UK Ltd has a long history of producing high-quality timber products, supplying the construction, pallet wood, and fencing sectors across both the Irish and UK markets.

Through their sister company, Alexanders Timber Design, they also design, manufacture, and supply timber frame homes.

The timber processing operations generate residual by-products, including woodchips, sawdust, bark, and shavings.

Glennon’s have established end-use markets for all by-products, ensuring that every fibre from the manufacturing process is put to use – right down to the smallest particle of sawdust.

The company operates its own on-site combined heat and power plant, using sawmill by-products to generate all the heat and electricity it requires.

This self-sufficiency even extends to powering its fleet of electric forklifts with electricity produced in-house.

Full details of the proposals are available on South Ayrshire Council’s planning portal under reference 25/00484/APP.
