The 2018 PEFC UK Annual Stakeholder Meeting will take place on 16 October at the National Council for Voluntary Organisations in London. PEFC is now the fastest growing forest certification programme in the world, with over 300 million hectares of forest PEFC-certified and more than 20,000 companies able to supply PEFC-certified products.
The theme for this year’s event will be innovation and technology in the forest products sector, attendees will be able to hear about a wide range of initiatives that are driving the greater use of timber to improve the built environment and encourage sustainable procurement.
Directly relevant to the forestry and structural timber sectors will be two key presentations. Andrew Waugh, Director at award-winning practice Waugh Thistleton Architects, will discuss how engineered wood products are changing the face of our cities and influencing contemporary architecture with material such as CLT and glulam.
As the drive continues to embed more digital thinking in both the construction and forestry sectors, Robin Askey from Envirosense, will also explore the future role that developing digital technologies such as Blockchain might play in the forest certification sector, where it could have a profound effect on chain of custody management and supply chain transparency.
