Kebony appoints new CEO following year sustained investment in its international expansion

Norman Willemsen has been appointed as chief executive officer of Kebony, a global leader in the production of sustainable modified woods.

Willemsen has a track record in spearheading success for complex and challenging businesses, as well as significant experience in developing and implementing multi-channel strategies.

Throughout his career he has worked with international organisations across a wide range of industries, from packaging through to construction. Prior to joining Kebony, Willemsen held various senior leadership positions for Armstrong World Industries – a global leader in the design and manufacture of innovative commercial and residential ceiling, wall and suspension system solutions, where he played a pivotal role in delivering Armstrong’s continued growth and development.

Last year marked the beginning of an exciting chapter for Kebony with the launch of a new production facility in Belgium and sustained investment in its international expansion. With impressive growth recorded in all key markets and exceptional development across Germany, France, Scandinavia and the US, Kebony achieved the strongest sales record in its history at the end of 2018.

Commenting on his appointment, Willemsen said: “Kebony is a great company with exceptional people and a powerful heritage; I am honoured and excited to work with an organisation that shares my beliefs and passion for growth. As evidenced by Kebony’s 2018 company results, I very much look forward to further developing the company’s bright and successful future.”

Thomas Høegh, chair of Kebony added: “Norman Willemsen’s arrival follows a rigorous selection process carried out by the Board. Norman has a wealth of experience and is perfectly placed to maximise Kebony’s success; he will make an excellent leader for this company and is the right person to help us achieve our long-term strategic vision.”

Recognised as one of the world’s most promising clean technology companies, Kebony was listed as a Global Cleantech 100 for the seventh year and subsequently received the prestigious award for ‘Europe and Israel Company of the Year 2018’, alongside the Build It Award for ‘Best Cladding Product 2018’. Most recently, Kebony has undergone an extensive global rebrand to support the company’s successful future innovation.

Developed in Norway the patented Kebony technology, which has taken years of research and development, enhances the properties of sustainable softwood with a bio-based liquid. The process permanently modifies the wood cell walls giving Kebony premium, hardwood characteristics, resulting in significantly improved durability and structural stability.
