Vistry poaches Taylor Wimpey Managing Director for top development role

Vistry has hired Taylor Wimpey Managing Director James Lidgate as Group Development Director

Vistry has appointed James Lidgate as Group Development Director, bringing in the senior Taylor Wimpey figure to help steer the housebuilder’s land and delivery strategy. Lidgate joins from Taylor Wimpey, where he most recently served as Managing Director.

In the new role, Lidgate will take charge of Vistry’s strategy across land, planning, sustainability and business improvement. He will also co-chair the group’s investment committee.

The move is the latest senior hire as Vistry continues to push its partnerships-led, mixed-tenure approach.

Lidgate brings more than 25 years’ experience spanning housebuilding and residential investment. Before Taylor Wimpey, he held a series of senior leadership roles at Legal & General, including Chief Executive of L&G Homes, Regional Chair of CALA and Head of Residential at Legal & General Investment Management. His background covers affordable housing, build to rent, strategic land and large-scale joint ventures.

Vistry Executive Chair and Chief Executive Greg Fitzgerald said the appointment underlined the group’s ability to attract top-tier industry talent.

Lidgate said he was drawn by the group’s momentum and growth plans, adding: “I’m thrilled to be joining Vistry and am very much looking forward to working with the teams across the business. The momentum of the business is compelling, and I’m excited to contribute to the Group’s ambitious growth and partnerships strategy.”
