Timber stair manufacturer takes Gold at prestigious regional business awards

Bespoke timber staircase manufacturer TwoTwenty has won regional recognition at this year’s EEF Future Manufacturing Awards, taking the Innovation Award for its New Zealand pine staircases.

The award celebrates manufacturing innovation whether demonstrated through product development or operating practices that have driven greater productivity, efficiency or business growth.

TwoTwenty has pioneered the use of New Zealand pine in its staircases as a high-quality, sustainable alternative to hardwoods. It offers a very low maintenance, virtually flawless material that doesn’t require any filling and sanding before installation.

Scott Peden, managing director at TwoTwenty, said: “This award is testament to our hard working and dedicated team, and we are delighted to have won. It puts us on the map as a modern and innovative company and goes some way to demonstrate the valuable contribution made by local manufacturers, like ourselves, to our region.

“It’s fantastic to get this far and we’re now looking forward to the national finals in January to see how we measure up against the rest of the UK.”

TwoTwenty was selected by a panel of judges drawn from business leaders, industry experts and academics after impressing them with the way it drives business growth through thoughtful product introductions and a clear USP to differentiate it from its competitors.

Dick Elsy, chief executive at HVM Catapult, which sponsored the award, said: “Innovation, the drive to deliver ever better goods or services and the focus on continuous improvements in process and practice, is at the heart of every great company.  It is key to the efficiency, outstanding productivity and world-beating competitiveness that creates robust, sustainable growth.  Innovation creates opportunity but it is challenging. Those who master it deserve our recognition and praise.  TwoTwenty is a worthy winner of the Innovation Award.”

With the regional title now secured, TwoTwenty will go on to compete for the national title at an awards gala dinner in London in January next year.

All TwoTwenty staircases are made using FSC certificated timber and are fully accredited by the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) Stair Scheme.
